Emi's Story

What was something surprisingly difficult about your unplanned pregnancy?
I was so young (19 when I found out I was Pregnant) and I was afraid that I was missing out on a lot. I was pregnant through the summer so all my friends were doing all these fun things that I was not able to do. I did not let that hold me back from enjoying the blessing I was growing inside of me.

What was something surprisingly pleasant about your journey?
I grew up and changed A LOT. I changed into a more positive person and a happier person. I viewed life differently and was constantly being told how mature I was being throughout. I believe I changed into the person God wanted me to be and the person I always strived to be but always gave in to the temptations around me. I am so thankful for the life-changing experience and for the daughter I have. She is the reason I strive to do my best EVERY DAY.

Who was someone who made a difference during your pregnancy and the months following? What did they do to support you?
GOD. Truthfully, I spoke to God more during my pregnancy than to anyone else. Why? Because he had the best advice and all the help I needed. I was ready to listen and hear his plan he had for me. I was ready to follow him and be the best version of myself.

How do you wish those around you had supported you?
I had a very supportive group of people who were there for me through it ALL. The good and the bad. I was very lucky.

Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
I wish I would of have been prouder of my pregnancy. At first, I was very shameful and scared of what people would do if they saw me in public so young with a big belly. I constantly wore oversized shirts. Be PROUD of the blessing God gave you. It takes a lot of courage and God-given strength to do what you are doing.

Looking back, what would you say to yourself the day you found out you were pregnant?
Emi Day, you are chosen to carry and have this baby for a reason. God chose you to be a mother at this very moment because it is all a part of his plan. It might not make sense to you now but as time passes this will all make sense and you will not want it to be any other way. God will do and place you exactly where you need to be if you follow him. So, follow him and you will be happy with where you end up and with who you end up with.

If Baby Steps had existed, how could this have impacted your experience?
Baby Steps seems to be a very helpful and positive environment. It would have been a great plus to my pregnancy experience just to have those to lean on and people to relate to. It is hard to get advice from people who have never been in your shoes before.

Where is Emi now?
Emi and her sweet baby girl, Avery Grace, live in Auburn, AL.
